The Goddard Senior Fellows Program recognizes Goddard’s most distinguished research workers for their accomplishments and contributions to the Nation’s space program. This designation represents the highest level of achievement for active scientists and engineers at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. The Goddard Senior Fellows are a special, predominantly non-managerial group appointed by the Goddard Center Director as an advisory committee for the Center Director. The Senior Fellows include Goddard members of the National Academies of Engineering and Science. Because of their role as an advisory committee, the membership of the Senior Fellows reflects the scientific and technical disciplines at the Center.
The Goddard Fellows Innovation Challenge focuses on early-stage innovation and exploratory research, potentially radical or high-risk/high-reward efforts that could have dramatic, longer-term consequences for science and engineering.
Goddard Senior Fellows are appointed by the Director of the Goddard Space Flight Center, with inputs from a selection committee established by the Director. This selection committee can contain representatives from Senior management as well as Goddard Senior Fellows and others as deemed appropriate.
The Senior Fellows and the Science Director’s Committee (SDC) of young scientists have collaborated to provide a monthly series of panels as a joint effort. The panels provide enlightenment and foster open communications between various groups of scientists and engineers and other Goddard organizations.
The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Senior Fellows are soliciting proposals for the Goddard Fellows Innovation Challenge (GFIC). The GFIC is sponsored by the Senior Fellows. The challenge focuses on early-stage investment and exploratory research, potentially radical or high-risk/high-reward efforts that could have dramatic, longer-term consequences for science and engineering.
The Senior Fellows and the Science Director’s Committee (SDC) of young scientists have combined efforts to provide a monthly series of panels as a joint effort. The panels provide enlightenment and foster open communications between various groups of scientists and engineers, and other Goddard organizations. The topics were selected by both groups; these conversations represent an open forum in an informal setting to permit questions and discussions.
